MSU Debaters are 1995 National Champions

While UCLA and Arkansas were battling it out on the basketball court, MSU debaters Biza Repko and Jason Trice were winning the 1995 national championship in debate at San Diego State University.

MSU was one of more than 100 schools in the nation participating in the tournament, which started March 31. April 2 qualifying teams began single-elimination competition to reach the finals. The final round between MSU and Gonzaga University in Spokane, Wash., took place during the national basketball championships in Seattle. MSU debated a total of 14 teams to win the championship.

Debate coahc James Roper, a professor of philosophy, said the team will be home Wednesday, April 5, to recover from the victory.
